![]() The major part of the work on the scooter port was recently completed so the scooter could be taken out of storage and parked at my mum's home. New batteries had to be fitted before it could be driven home. The gates still have to be fitted. Click here for further information.

![]() Progress on the driveway and scooter port has been good over the past month as the weather has been dry enough to allow plenty of work to be completed. The ground was levelled, top soil sold to create space and to recover some of the construction cost. The slabs were laid, and the wooden scooter port constructed and roofed. The only major out standing work to be completed is the gate and the electrics to allow the scooter to be charged. Click here to see the current progress. ![]() The progress of the plants in the greenhouse has been good. The second 'wave' of Begonias which were planted in January 2016 have developed well and are now in individual pots. The first 'wave' which were germinated on a propagator in December 2015 were planted in the front garden and pots and planters in early June 2016 and are progressing well. I was also able to sell off the surplus begonias which will help to recover the cost of the compost and electricity to heat and light the greenhouse and propagators. although the heating required this year was minimal. ![]() The first wave of Begonias planted on a propagator in December 2015 developed well when brought on in the greenhouse. They were transferred to individual pots and then planted in the front garden in early June2016. They have taken well and the progress is shown in this picture taken at the end of June. If the weather continues to remain favourable they should start to spread, cover the soil and prevent the growth of weeds which is always the worst task to have to do around the garden. I have been feeding the plants weekly and with a bit of luck should start to see the results of this in the next couple of weeks. ![]() Last year my cousin and his wife very kindly donated some garden furniture they no longer had a use for. It was prepared for use last year and then stored over the winter. This year i plan to refurbish and repair the furniture where required. Last year some of the furniture was modified to create an unusual stand alone table. Click here to follow the refurbishment of the other tables and chairs. ![]() Earlier in the year i started work on a small driveway and carport/canopy for my mum's electric scooter that she bought late in 2015. Due to bad weather in early spring the ground preparation work was badly delayed. Work has now restarted and should progress well if the weather holds. Click here to see the latest progress on the driveway while i try to keep the garden in good condition and continue to produce more plants from the greenhouse. ![]() This picture shows the progress of the Begonia seeds planted at the beginning of December 2015 and the middle of January 2016. The seedlings were germinated on a propagator using the LED grow lights. As can be seen from the photograph some of the plants are so well advanced they are flowering and have been for the past two weeks. Unfortunately due to the prolonged winter and poor early spring i have not been able to harden off the plants so there is a bit of a log jam in the greenhouse at the moment which is holding up the thinning out and planting on. ![]() Have made good progress refurbishing the Philips portable car radio. The faulty volume control has been replaced and a new on/off back light LED has been installed to replace the original miniature incandescent bulb. The plastic casings and chrome work have been cleaned up. All that remains to be done is to refurbish the external casing paint which is rather scruffy and has some surface rust pitting. I plan to sand it down and repaint it. Click here for more details. ![]() I created the drinks table from a set of tables and chairs in the summer of 2015. Over the winter i cleaned and refurbished the table repairing small areas of damage and applying a new coat of varnish so it is now ready for a new season with hopefully lots of sun. Click here for more details. ![]() I have developed a number of grow lamps over the past few years and thought it was about time i put some of the details on this site. This is a prototype i developed a few years ago and which gave a great deal of success developing plants. It is simple to build and has low running costs. Click here for details. |
