Background
On a recent visit to check on the condition of my mother's caravan over the winter we discovered a small leak in the roof vent. On further investigation it was found that there were cracks in the external flange of the liner of the roof vent. I was able to temporarily seal these cracks until the roof vent is replaced. The plastic was found to be very brittle and at the end of its useful life so the entire roof vent will have to be replaced.
Below are some pictures of the tide marks left by the leak and where it had reached. Although the leak is quite small it has the potential to cause serious damage to the roof structure, insulation and the internal roof panels. If the leak was left without being repaired and continued over the winter it could also damage the floor and surrounding cabinets and any other woodwork or carpets.
