Background : Motorola MW/LW Radio
This Motorola MW/LW car radio was the first i bought. My first car did not have a radio so very soon after starting work, if i remember correctly with my second pay cheque i purchased this radio in 1984 in Edinburgh from the Dalry branch of the now defunct Comet electrical chain. I did not buy a radio with the FM band as it was just a bit too much more expensive so i had to make do with just AM and LW!
The radio had 5 preset (mechanical) push buttons., 4 x Medium Wave and 1 x Long Wave. It also had the sophistication of a tone control! For all its simplicity it did provide a good sound.
The radio was manufactured in England...it must have been one of the last to be made there.
I still have all the original packaging, manuals and the sales receipt. This picture shows the radio in its box with the cardboard cut out removed. It was intended to be displayed in retail outlets like this.
I only used this radio for a year as i sold the car and kept the radio. Some time in the not too distant future i will try to add some photos showing the internals when i get time to take the casings off.
