The pictures below show some of the Sweet William and Lupin plants that were kept in the greenhouse over the winter. By the time these pictures were taken in mid March 2018 the plants were well out of their winter sleep and starting to show strong signs of development.
These pictures show the transplanted seedlings for the Begonia "Destiny" (tuberous type), Begonia "Sahara" and Petunia(various). By this stage they are ready to be transplanted into larger cells and grown on ready to be hardened off outside and then planted in their final location. The failure rate and losses due to disease were very, very low this year probably due to the dry spring and early summer.
I started the Begonia Destiny plants very late this year due to many other commitments. As they had not advanced as far as normal by the time they were due to go outside i decided to keep them in the greenhouse and to develop a display for the late autumn early winter and keep as much colour around the garden as possible. It makes a colourful display to look out the window and see all the foliage and colour in the greenhouse as the autumn days head into the grey skies of winter. The pictures below show the plants in the middle of October 2018.
