Background
While clearing out some old equipment i came across these floppy disk drives and thought i would put some details about them on this website.
There is a half height 5.25" drive widely used in the late 1980's and early 1990's. There is also a 3.5" drive widely used through out the 1990's up until the early 2000's when they were replaced by USB memory sticks.

5.25" Floppy Disk Drive.(Teac)
This is a 5.25" half height floppy disk drive with a capacity of 650 Kilo Bytes made by the TEAC company of Japan and manufactured around 1984/1985. It is one of the earlier half height types made from a diecast chassis making it very rigid. In later years as the PC boom took off the diecast frames were replaced by pressed steel welded frames in an attempt to reduce costs. This type of drive sold in volume to PC builders in the mid 1980's for about £40. By the end of their life they were being sold at a retail price of £10!. By then hundreds of millions had been made.
