Unfortunately i do not have the original users manual nor does the motor have any markings that would allow me to search for specifications so i have had to do some testing to try to get some of the parameters such as the resistance, torque and electrical constant. Initial prototyping has gone very well and i should have a working machine in the near future. Click here for more details on this project.
Recently i have been working on converting a cordless battery powered grass strimmer to operate from mains power using an old laptop PSU and a custom developed circuit to drive the motor.

It is the time of year when most people with gardens decide to trim over hanging bits of trees or bushes that get out of hand. A neighbour of my Mum's got a bit too ambitious with a pair of anvil loppers and as a result shattered the anvil part. Rather than buy a new pair i decided to try to repair them if possible. Click here for further information on this project. My mother's lawnmower recently developed a problem where it was getting a little more difficult to operate the electric motor with the control switch. Eventually it just would not start. After a short investigation it was found that the control lever had broken internally and needed replacing. Find out more detail on how this was solved by clicking here. New carbon brushes and some automotive air filter foam were ordered online to repair the mower. As is always the case when renovating old equipment, just when you think you are about to succeed another problem appears! One of the brush springs broke but a work around was devised. The brushes and air filter foam were fitted and the mower was tested successfully. Click here for more information on this project. My mums neighbors lawn mower stopped working recently. I said i would see if it i could repair it. When i opened the mower my first thoughts were, 'where is the motor' The mower is over 36 years old, was until recently still working well so i thought it was worth a try and after seeing this when the motor cover was removed it was a challenge not to be walked away from!
