When the seed has been gathered i will store it at the bottom of the fridge to simulate a four to six week period of winter and then try a test germination in late December or early January. Click here to see the progress of other plants in the greenhouse.
Unfortunately i lost most of the Begonia Destiny tubers to rotting over the winter although i had taken all the same precautions as previous years when harvesting and storing them. With the few tubers i have i plan to build up a bigger stock next year by gathering the seeds for this year.

I took some time to update the details of my home/office network set up, both past and present. It gives some detail of my remote working options and how i have had my own 'mini-cloud' operation for many years, long before it became popular. I have modified the setup recently and will update the photographs in the near future. Click here for details of this project. The Begonia Tom Foolery seeds were planted on 8th January 2019. This picture was taken on 19th January showing how the vast majority of the seeds had started to germinate on the propagator and under the LED lights i developed a number of years ago. The seedling density was much higher than i would have preferred but with careful thinning i reckoned the situation could be managed and a great crop of plants produced. This picture was taken on 27th February 2019. The seedlings were thinned out to 180 cell plug trays and left on the propagator under LED lights. The seedlings developed quickly with lush green leaves and a good deep green colour. I was able to control the production in waves, reusing each 180 cell tray to produce 7 x 24 cell trays. This picture was taken on the 1st July 2019 showing the 2nd wave of seedlings which are now ready to be planted in pots or flower beds. To date i have managed to produce over 2,000 Begonia plants from just two propagators using the LED lights. As the weather has improved it is becoming increasingly difficult to tell the difference between the waves of plants as the catch up with each other. A third wave will be ready soon.... |
