After completing the construction of the decking in 2015 i decided to allow the wood to settle and dry out before applying a protective coating of oil. The decking got enough to protect it over the winter of 2015-2016. I waited until later in the year as applying the decking oil in too high a temperature (never a great risk in Scotland!) stops the oil properly soaking into the wood and instead it forms a skin on the surface, which then peels off. Fortunately early October 2016 was a period of settled reasonable weather so i got the job done before winter gets under way. Click here for further information.
