After completing the construction of the decking in 2015 i decided to allow the wood to settle and dry out before applying a protective coating of oil. The decking got enough to protect it over the winter of 2015-2016. I waited until later in the year as applying the decking oil in too high a temperature (never a great risk in Scotland!) stops the oil properly soaking into the wood and instead it forms a skin on the surface, which then peels off. Fortunately early October 2016 was a period of settled reasonable weather so i got the job done before winter gets under way. Click here for further information.

I recently discovered a leak at the back of the WC in my mother's caravan. While investigating this i found a couple of other problems so decided to set about fixing these at the same time rather than letting them get any worse. Prevention is always better than cure! Click here for further information. The North East corner of the caravan was sealed before the winter weather approaches. There were only very small signs of water getting in on the inside of the caravan but prevention is much better than cure with this type of problem. I used the same process as i used before for the North West corner with some refinements to improve the quality of the finish and minimise the amount of reworking to achieve that finish.
